WELCOME TO LOCKHART SHIRE

A visit to beautiful Lockhart Shire is always a pleasure! Everywhere you go there is something to discover. Charming heritage towns with their own distinctive characters, quaint shops, the great outdoors, colourful events and a warm welcome.

Walk in the heart of nature on a hike at The Rock and Galore Hill, take a cycle through rolling hills in the Shire's south east corner, experience fresh local produce, take the time to discover heritage experiences and lose yourself in the natural beauty of Lockhart Shire, from koalas and kangaroos to stunning sunsets and endless, star studded nights.

Set in the beautiful Riverina, near to Wagga Wagga and Albury, and not far from the popular Newell Highway, Lockhart Shire rests between the mountains and the outback, the wineries and the rivers.

We really are an ideal base for exploring the entire Riverina region of New South Wales, so come and stay a while, we're waiting for you!

This wonderful poem written recently by local Dulcie McKenzie sums up the beautiful town of Lockhart perfectly!

My Town

There's a place outside of Wagga

That oozes warmth and charm.

It's the beautiful township of Lockhart

Where the locals love a yarn.

Heritage verandahs line the main street,

Pavers adorning the footpaths below.

Shopfronts have just been repainted

In the colours of long, long ago.

The caravan park is a choice spot to stay

Nestled right in the centre of town.

It's next to the local museum

With wool portraits of world renown.

These portraits superb, with detail so fine,

Will leave you in absolute awe.

There's the Tim Fisher Gallery, displaying mementos

Of the life of a gentleman to the core.

The Spirit of The Land Festival, held each October

Attracts an influx of visitors to town.

Sculptures, fine art, street stalls and much more

Is indeed a jewel in our crown.

The water tower resplendent

Is truly a magnificent sight.

Birds, animals, trees and a waterfall

Are covering the entire height.

There are walks you can take at a gentle pace

With sculptures at every turn.

If time does prevent you from seeing it all,

I'm sure you will want to return,

And don't forget Galore Hill

Where bushranger Dan Morgan did hide.

Trek down to the caves, climb the tower and you'll see

The most magnificent views far and wide.

So, make your way to Lockhart,

I'm sure you'll have a ball.

There's so much to see and so much to do

You'll be welcomed, one and all.
